Grandparents really can have an influence on the spiritual lives of grandchildren - for good or for bad.

One of my grandparents always wanted me to be like my cousin - whom she saw as the perfect girl. I didn't want to be like that cousin - I didn't want to do what Grandma said either. It was a real turn off.

Later through better examples I came to know Christ and ultimately more like what my Grandmother wanted. Thank the Lord for more opportunities and examples!

How often I have felt like Hannah crying out to God on my own behalf. But I also feel like maybe I've cried for the wrong things. Lately, I have felt selfish with my prayers like I've been too focused on my own wants and desires. God, help me to focus my energies on You. You have been so good to me and I have felt so undeserving. Thank you for your grace. I don't deserve the things you've given me. Help me serve you more and be the man of God you want me to be. Thank you Lord.

At the dinner table, my young children always want to talk (instead of eat). I wonder if I can apply this verse and bring up a Bible verse at the table to discuss (as long as bites of food are poked in occasionally too). hmm - what to start with...

I have always loved this chapter - especially the "Wife of Noble Character". It sounds odd because it seems to "expect" so much from a woman. But these are characteristics to look up to and imitate. This idea woman couldn't have done every single one of these things every day either. Each thing is done in it's time and season. I also like that she had "smarts" enough to run her own business, manage her house and finances.

That is so true about actions have consequences. I have met a few people in my time who think that when we ask God to forgive us of our sins that the consequences of those actions are taken away. that is not always the case. Having the attitude that I can go out and do what I want and ask God to forgive me later questions the genuineness of the prayer and it definitely doesn't remove the natural consequence.

When I was in high school, I remember one of my favorite teachers having a sign above his door that said, "Actions have consequences." So few of us teenagers seemed to be able to grasp that concept and lived like there were no consequences. But something little like seeing that sign every day for a year really made a lasting difference. But, it only says what these verses say.

The last few years especially, I've been trying hard to take a step back before I make decisions and judgments. I think it's helping me not to rush in and make choices I wish I hadn't. Actions do have consequences.

Thank God for his grace for when we fall on our face and for helping us get back up to turn around and start over.

Having more of a consistent Bible reading again is great because I'm "re-remembering" and rediscovering many things in the Bible. I'd read all of the New Testament and I'm pretty sure all of the Old Testament (just didn't keep track of it then) - but if you don't keep reading it after a while you forget. In order to do what God asks of me - I have to keep reading His letter of love and learn from it. Then I can be "thoroughly equipped" as the verse above says.

Jesus was the example. He chose this way because he looked to our interest and obeyed the Father. What an example!
